Actress Urmila Matondkar shared her experience of managing hectic shooting schedules for two of her popular projects, the song ‘Chamma Chamma’ from China Gate and the movie ‘Jaanam Samjha Karo’. During her appearance on India’s Best Dancer, she revealed the challenges she faced, including limited time for rehearsals due to simultaneous shoots. Matondkar mentioned how she juggled between shooting the song at 9 AM and another song’s title track till the early hours without any prior rehearsal.
She recounted the director of China Gate, Rajkumar Santoshi’s advice that inspired her to excel in her performances. Santoshi emphasized the importance of creating a song that surpasses the impact of a dance number from years ago that remains iconic in people’s minds. Terence Lewis, a judge on India’s Best Dancer, highlighted the global recognition of ‘Chamma Chamma’, mentioning its inclusion in the Hollywood film Moulin Rouge, which won multiple Academy Awards.
