The Adani Foundation and the Anushkaa Foundation have joined forces to assist over 10,000 children affected by clubfoot in five states through public healthcare systems. This three-year partnership, initiated on World Clubfoot Day, will collaborate with the National Health Mission in states like Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh. The program kickstarted at Manyavar Kanshiram Samyukth Chikitsalay and Trauma Centre in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a state with a significant burden of clubfoot cases.
Dr. Priti Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Foundation, emphasized the importance of early identification and treatment for children with clubfoot. She highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to providing opportunities for specially-abled individuals, stating that every child should have the chance to lead a full and active life. Clubfoot, a congenital condition affecting approximately one in 800 newborns, can be corrected with the Ponseti treatment method, but many children in underserved areas lack timely care.
The new initiative aims to enhance early identification, referral systems, and treatment accessibility through public healthcare networks, while also improving long-term care and rehabilitation for affected children. It will support 67 clubfoot clinics in 61 districts across the five states to expand treatment access and enhance healthcare capacity. Furthermore, the program will train and empower 51 healthcare professionals involved in clubfoot care and sensitize over 30,000 frontline health workers to improve early detection and referral processes.
Deepak Premnarayen, Founder of the Anushkaa Foundation, expressed optimism about the collaboration’s impact on early diagnosis and intervention systems, as well as the enhancement of quality treatment access. He stressed the importance of preventing a treatable condition like clubfoot from becoming a lifelong obstacle to mobility and opportunities.
