Dr. Priti Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Foundation, revealed plans for a significant extension of the “Swabhimaan” initiative during the “Swabhimaan – The Rise of She” event in Mumbai. The initiative’s primary goal is to empower around 1 million women economically across India in the upcoming years. It focuses on uplifting urban underprivileged women and motivating them towards entrepreneurship.
The initiative is designed to integrate skilled women into the economic mainstream by equipping them with essential resources and systemic assistance. Dr. Priti Adani highlighted that many women are excluded from the workforce not due to lack of ability but because they lack opportunities, self-assurance, and systemic support.
According to Dr. Priti Adani, “Swabhimaan” is more than just a project; it embodies the journey of women who have opted for a life filled with self-assurance and dignity. Launched three to four years ago, the initiative provides women with training in skills, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial prospects.
Under this program, women are trained in marketing their products and expanding their businesses. Dr. Priti Adani expressed delight over more than 4,500 women already participating in the initiative, with many achieving economic independence and supporting their families’ education, health, and other necessities.
The Adani Foundation’s commitment extends to connecting one lakh women from Maharashtra with the ‘Swabhimaan’ initiative in the upcoming phase. BMC Mayor Ritu Tawde mentioned that the Adani Foundation, Adani Electricity, and the Women’s Economic Development Corporation have collaborated on this initiative for the past few years.
Aditi Tatkare, Minister of Women and Child Development, Government of Maharashtra, commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of such programs in empowering women economically and nurturing entrepreneurial skills. She highlighted various schemes at both central and state government levels aimed at fostering women’s self-reliance.
