In a move to empower women economically, the Adani Foundation initiated a livelihood program in Madhya Pradesh under the Swabhimaan project, driven by Dr. Priti Adani’s vision. The program targets 1,500 women in Badarwas, Shivpuri district, offering skill-based employment for financial independence. The newly opened Adani Vikas Kendra, spanning 48,000 square feet, serves as a training and production hub with 600 modern sewing machines.
The center aims to provide stable employment to women previously engaged in irregular jobs, facilitating their transition to sustainable, market-oriented livelihoods. Part of the broader Swabhimaan initiative, which aims to link one million women in India to sustainable income sources, this program combines skill development with market access to ensure consistent earnings for women. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the facility, emphasizing its potential to connect local skills to national and global markets.
Addressing a gathering of over 5,000 women, Scindia praised the initiative’s transformative impact, highlighting the women’s growing self-reliance and economic engagement. The Adani Foundation’s CEO, Dr. Abhishek Lakhtakia, stressed the importance of financial independence in empowerment, emphasizing the program’s focus on translating skills into lasting income through real job opportunities and supply chains.
The project is anticipated to enhance the region’s socio-economic landscape by boosting household incomes, reducing reliance on seasonal or informal labor, and stemming migration. It also seeks to empower women in local economies, enhancing their influence within families and communities. As the Adani Foundation nears its 30th anniversary, this initiative underscores its three-decade commitment to inclusive development in India.
