Adani Electricity and the Adani Foundation wrapped up a summer learning camp for BMC school students in Mumbai. The initiative, called ‘Utthan’, aimed to merge classroom education with practical vocational exposure. Aligned with the NIPUN Bharat Mission and the National Education Policy 2020, the program focused on enhancing foundational literacy and numeracy skills while bridging academic concepts with real-world experiences.
The camp utilized engaging learning techniques and provided hands-on opportunities in various professions to help students grasp the application of classroom knowledge in daily life. Each day of the camp centered around a specific theme that combined academic activities with skill-based professions. One session, “Every Child Has a Story to Spark,” turned students into “Newsroom Explorers,” engaging them in reading newspapers, identifying key elements, and creating headlines and reports.
The camp also featured interactions with professionals like cobblers to instill the value of labor and skilled professions in children. Activities such as “Measurement Magic” and “Market Masters” encouraged students to apply mathematical concepts by measuring objects and engaging in buying-and-selling simulations. Additionally, students interacted with carpenters, electricians, and vegetable vendors to understand the practical applications of mathematical concepts in various professions.
Moreover, the camp emphasized literacy, creativity, and communication skills through activities like story-building, reading circles, poster-making, and public speaking. Vocational sessions with tailors, blacksmiths, plumbers, and nurses introduced students to craftsmanship, sustainability, healthcare, and community service concepts. The final sessions focused on nurturing problem-solving skills, logical thinking, teamwork, and social responsibility among the students.
Principal Shivshankar R. Tiwari of Maharashtra Housing Board (MHB) Hindi 3 School praised the initiative for making classroom learning more meaningful by connecting it to real-life skills and professions. A parent, Pooja Bhaishankar Bhatt, noted positive changes in her child’s learning habits post-camp, emphasizing the joy and practicality of the learning experience. Student Eram Javed Shaikh from MHB School in Malwani West expressed enjoyment and interactivity in the learning activities, particularly highlighting the experience of becoming reporters and meeting professionals like carpenters and tailors.
A representative from the Adani Group highlighted the importance of linking education with real-life experiences to make learning more impactful for children.
