The Adani Group has been selected as the official partner for the World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2026, recognized by UNESCO and organized by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). This marks the first time an Indian entity has been chosen by WFEO to honor engineers on World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development. India’s leading transport, utility, and infrastructure developer, the Adani Group, sees this as a validation of its role in advancing the clean energy transition and providing clean, reliable, and affordable power at scale to support India’s energy security and global sustainability goals.
The theme for ‘WED 2026’ is “Smart engineering for a sustainable future through innovation and digitalization.” The Adani Group’s initiatives in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and large-scale transport and utility systems align closely with this theme, showcasing how technology-driven engineering can foster sustainable development in practical settings. The Khavda renewable energy project in Gujarat, with a planned capacity of 30 GW by 2029, has been highlighted by WFEO as a significant example of India’s green transition under the World Engineering Day 2026 program.
The Khavda renewable energy plant, covering 538 sq km, is a massive endeavor, five times the size of Paris and nearly as large as Mumbai. Once operational, it is set to become the world’s largest power plant across all energy sources. Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has already commissioned over 7 GW of renewable energy capacity at Khavda and aims to achieve the full 30 GW capacity by 2029, showcasing a substantial commitment to clean energy production and sustainability.
