The Centre has granted a one-year extension to Tarun Kapoor, Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, allowing the retired IAS officer to continue his service in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The extension, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), is effective from June 10, 2026, or until further orders, whichever comes first.
Tarun Kapoor, a retired 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Himachal Pradesh, currently serves as an Advisor in the PMO. Initially appointed in May 2022, he was re-appointed for a fresh two-year term in June 2024. With his tenure set to end in June this year, the Centre has decided to extend his service by another year.
Before his role in the PMO, Kapoor held significant positions in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, as well as the ministries of Housing and Urban Affairs. His continued presence in the PMO is seen as crucial for maintaining policy continuity in vital sectors like energy, infrastructure, and economic development.
