Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side in the Bhojshala Temple-Kamal Maula Mosque dispute, praised the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s ruling as “historic.” The court declared the disputed complex in Dhar as belonging to Raja Bhoj and granted Hindus the right to worship. Jain highlighted that the court recognized the Bhojshala complex as Raja Bhoj’s property and allowed Hindu worship rituals.
Jain emphasized that the court’s decision set aside the Archaeological Survey of India’s previous order, which permitted Namaz offerings at the site. Going forward, only Hindu worship will be conducted at the location. Additionally, the court directed the government to consider the Hindu side’s request for the return of the idol of Goddess Vagdevi from a London museum.
The court also instructed the government to evaluate the possibility of providing alternative land to the Muslim community. It ruled that Muslims could approach the state government for the allocation of separate land in the district to build a mosque. The case revolves around the religious significance of the Archaeological Survey of India-protected monument in Dhar district, known as a temple of Goddess Saraswati by Hindus and Kamal Maula Mosque by Muslims.
