Afghan police in the northern Jawzjan province have detained eight individuals for their involvement in producing and smuggling narcotics. The arrests followed targeted police operations that uncovered a significant amount of illicit drugs, including hashish and heroin, at locations linked to the suspects.
This crackdown is part of Afghanistan’s ongoing efforts to tackle the illegal production, trafficking, and distribution of narcotics across the country. In a separate incident in the eastern Laghman province, Afghan counter-narcotics police destroyed a drug processing laboratory and apprehended a suspect connected to the case.
Recently, Afghan police in the northern Takhar province arrested a suspected drug smuggler who was transporting crystal methamphetamine and heroin production chemicals. The suspect, intending to sell the materials in the provincial capital, has been detained for further investigation.
Afghanistan has been ramping up its anti-narcotics measures, conducting targeted operations against trafficking networks, clandestine labs, and illegal drug markets. In another operation in the western Nimroz province, Afghan counter-narcotics forces seized 170 kg of opium poppy and arrested two suspected smugglers along a highway.
