Karimuddin Barbhuiyan, a leader from Asom Gana Parishad who contested in the Assam Assembly elections from Sonai constituency, expressed confidence in Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s popularity among Muslim voters. He emphasized that the ruling alliance was favored by voters, rejecting concerns of anti-incumbency affecting the BJP-led coalition.
Barbhuiyan predicted that the Opposition might secure around 35 seats in the 126-member Assembly, citing the public’s trust in the current government’s performance in various sectors like welfare, infrastructure, and law enforcement. He acknowledged the importance of dissent in democracy, welcoming Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi’s potential victory for accountability in governance.
The AGP leader stressed the electorate’s preference for continuity and development over fragmented Opposition forces, downplaying the impact of isolated criticisms on the overall mandate. Recent projections indicate a strong lead for the ruling alliance, with the BJP bloc expected to secure 102 seats in the Assembly, ensuring a comfortable retention of power.
