Ahmedabad’s civic authorities have initiated a comprehensive fire safety enforcement campaign following a tragic explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in the Ramol area that claimed nine lives. Inspectors have issued 30 notices and sealed four premises during the initial round of inspections. The crackdown comes as police probe the blast at a unit accused of operating without a valid license.

The Fire and Emergency Services Department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation conducted special checks across all seven zones of the city to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations. A total of 147 premises, including warehouses, godowns, and commercial establishments, were inspected. The inspections led to the issuance of 30 notices, with 23 directed at warehouses and godowns and seven at other establishments. Additionally, four units were sealed off.

Authorities have stated that the enforcement actions will continue with increased intensity starting Monday. The South-West Zone recorded the highest number of violations, with notices issued to all 21 inspected premises. Various establishments, including transport companies, shopping malls, furniture stores, and automotive service centers, were among those issued notices in different zones of the city.

In the Central Zone, 44 premises were inspected, resulting in four notices being issued. The North Zone inspected 15 premises and issued one notice, while the South Zone inspected 34 premises and issued one notice. The North-West Zone inspected four premises and issued three notices. No violations were found in the West and East Zones during the inspections.

No notices were issued to factories or industrial units during the drive, according to the department’s zone-wise inspection report. Out of the 30 notices served, 23 were related to warehouses and godowns, while seven were directed at other types of establishments. The four sealed premises belong to individuals in various locations across the city.

The enforcement actions follow the explosion at the illegal firecracker manufacturing unit, which resulted in casualties and injuries. Investigators have arrested three individuals, including the owner and operator of the unit, alleging that it continued to operate despite the cancellation of its license. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
