Ahmedabad Civil Hospital offered free haemophilia treatment valued at over Rs 17 crore to 669 patients in the 2025-26 fiscal year, as stated by Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya. This initiative showcases the state government’s dedication to ensuring life-saving care for individuals with this rare bleeding disorder.
Pansheriya highlighted that the government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has initiated a special program for haemophilia patients. During the 2025-26 financial year, 669 individuals with haemophilia at Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad received injections worth more than Rs 17 crore at no cost.
The minister emphasized that costly clotting factor injections essential for haemophilia treatment are provided free of charge not only at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital but also at government hospitals across Gujarat for patients in need. The government’s efforts aim to alleviate the financial burden of expensive medical treatments on low-income and middle-class families.
Expensive clotting factor injections needed for haemophilia treatment are procured in bulk by the government through GMERSCL to assist patients who face financial challenges. This genetic disorder, caused by a deficiency of clotting factors, hampers the body’s ability to clot blood, leading to prolonged or spontaneous bleeding even after minor injuries.
Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi detailed that injections exceeding Rs 17 crore were provided free of charge to patients during the year. The treatment encompassed various clotting factor injections, ensuring patients with haemophilia received the necessary care to prevent severe complications and save lives.
Dr. Joshi explained that patients are administered the specific clotting factor protein lacking in their bodies through injections. This treatment approach effectively controls bleeding in haemophilia patients, underscoring the critical role of timely administration of clotting factor injections in preventing life-threatening situations.
