The Ahmedabad Crime Branch apprehended a 27-year-old illegal arms supplier, Karansinh alias Kanchido Solanki, and confiscated six country-made firearms and 21 live cartridges during a pre-Rath Yatra crackdown to curb illegal weapon circulation. The arrest took place near Zundal Bridge on S.P. Ring Road based on specific intelligence received by Crime Branch personnel during patrol.
The seized items included four country-made revolvers, one additional pistol, a 12-bore firearm, 21 cartridges, a mobile phone valued at Rs 6,000, and a black bag worth Rs 200, totaling Rs 88,300. A case has been filed at the Crime Branch under relevant sections of the Arms Act, with ongoing investigations.
Karansinh allegedly confessed during interrogation to engaging in illegal firearm sales, with previous arms-related arrests by Detroj Police Station. He disclosed procuring weapons from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, with intentions to distribute them in Ahmedabad Rural and Mehsana district, having connections with criminal elements in the area.
The accused’s involvement in the illicit firearms trade reportedly spans one-and-a-half to two years, with previous buyers arrested by Ahmedabad Rural and Mehsana police. After obtaining bail in prior cases, he allegedly revisited Gwalior for additional firearms procurement. Authorities are probing the recipients and intended use of the confiscated weapons, while also delving into his criminal history.
