The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has apprehended one individual in connection with a significant silver theft in Rajkot, Gujarat. Nearly 120 kg of silver was stolen, with 40 kg being recovered by the authorities. The theft occurred in the Champak Nagar area of Rajkot on February 4, where thieves broke into a residence and stole silver valued at over Rs 1 crore.
Officials reported that the culprits, arriving in a four-wheeler between 2 and 2:30 a.m., targeted the home of Bipin, an acquaintance of local trader Atul Patel. Following the incident, Bipin alerted Patel, leading to a police investigation. Surveillance footage from the vicinity was analyzed to identify the suspects.
Based on specific intelligence, the city Crime Branch intercepted a portion of the stolen silver en route to Mehsana for sale. A successful operation led to the recovery of 40 kg of silver, and one suspect, Pradeep Prajapati, was arrested. The recovered silver is confirmed to be part of the stolen consignment from Rajkot.
While Pradeep is in custody, the second suspect, Mukesh Prajapati, remains at large with the remaining stolen silver. Authorities suspect that the theft was premeditated and involved multiple individuals. Efforts are underway to locate the absconding accused and recover the remaining 80 kg of silver.
