The Standing Committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has urged officials to swiftly repair potholes citywide before the monsoon season. Chairman Kamlesh Patel emphasized the need to address existing potholes promptly to prepare for the upcoming rains. Additionally, no new road excavation work will be allowed from now on to focus on repairs.
The committee also discussed the recent water contamination incident in Ghatlodia, where numerous residents fell ill. Surveillance has been heightened at 26 high-risk locations in response to the incident. Patel revealed that a ruptured water pipeline led to contaminated water entering a storage tank, causing health problems for those who consumed it.
Furthermore, the AMC has taken steps to enhance traffic management and curb encroachments in the city. A Joint Enforcement Team has been established to maintain clear roads, with the deployment of cranes for various operations. These cranes, hired at Rs 4,600 for an eight-hour shift per zone, will aid in traffic management and encroachment removal efforts.
