The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has been conducting continuous drainage operations in response to heavy rainfall causing waterlogging in various areas of the city. As per reports, 24 teams have been deployed at 20 locations spanning 10 wards to expedite the removal of accumulated rainwater. The AMC’s recent status update indicated the opening of 141 catchpits and 85 manholes citywide to enhance stormwater drainage.
The drainage efforts have been focused on waterlogged spots in the East, West, North-West, and South-West zones, with no waterlogging incidents reported in the South Zone. Notably, the East Zone experienced the highest number of affected locations, with waterlogging observed at six sites across four wards. In response, AMC deployed a team of six personnel in the East Zone, opening 59 catchpits and 25 manholes to facilitate rapid rainwater discharge.
In the West Zone, water accumulation was noted at five locations spanning three wards, prompting a team of six personnel to open seven catchpits and two manholes to support drainage operations. Additionally, counter pumps were utilized at private properties to eliminate standing water and restore normal conditions. The North-West Zone reported waterlogging at seven locations across two wards, with seven personnel deployed and 46 catchpits and 36 manholes opened to enhance water flow.
In the South-West Zone, a two-member team addressed waterlogging at two locations in one ward by opening nine catchpits and nine manholes to expedite drainage. AMC officials emphasized their continuous monitoring of city conditions and readiness to swiftly remove rainwater, providing immediate relief to residents through field teams, catchpit and manhole operations, and pumping arrangements.
