The Ahmedabad police apprehended a 26-year-old man and confiscated 1.975 kg of hybrid ganja, a luxury car, and other valuables valued at Rs 79.67 lakh in a targeted operation near Vijay Cross Roads. The Crime Branch’s Special Operations Group acted on specific intelligence regarding alleged illegal trafficking and sale of narcotics. Senior officers had ordered increased enforcement against drug-related activities in Ahmedabad.
Teams led by Police Inspectors K.D. Gohil and A.B. Bhatt, following directives, patrolled near Memnagar Fire Station behind the Municipal Garden area. During the operation, they intercepted a Mercedes-Benz car on a public road and detained its occupant, identified as 26-year-old Hardik Kalal, a resident of Swastik Residency in Naranpura.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 1.975 kg of hybrid ganja, valued at Rs 69.12 lakh. Additionally, a mobile phone and other items were seized, bringing the total recovered property value to Rs 79.67 lakh. A case has been filed at DCB Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) S.S. Ninama stated that the operation was based on credible intelligence about narcotics movement into the city. The SOG team was patrolling the area when information was received about the involvement of individuals in illegal ganja sales. The raid was carried out at the identified location in the presence of independent witnesses.
Efforts are ongoing to identify other members of the alleged network and to track the source and distribution chain of the seized narcotics.
