The Ahmedabad Rural Police have apprehended three additional individuals in connection with an alleged fake blood plasma scheme, bringing the total number of arrests to seven. The investigation has expanded to states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, following the tracking of tainted plasma through an interstate supply network. Among the recent detainees are Ajit Solanki from Ahmedabad district and blood bank operators Prakash Sangale and Ashok Sangale from Maharashtra.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) has stated that the trio played roles in the transportation, receipt, and distribution of adulterated plasma, which was swapped for authentic plasma meant for pharmaceutical companies. The case came to light when a pharmaceutical firm in Changodar reported that plasma shipments from blood banks had been tampered with before reaching their facility. The alleged mastermind, Dinesh Chaudhary, a former plasma collection executive, was arrested along with Jitendra Solanki, Rafik Khalifa, and Mohan Gaikwad.
Authorities claim that Chaudhary exploited his knowledge of the plasma collection process to substitute genuine plasma with adulterated material before it reached the pharmaceutical company. Investigations revealed that Ajit Solanki transported plasma from Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh using the complainant company’s pickup vehicle. He reportedly supplied 12 boxes of plasma to Chaudhary before the consignments reached the pharmaceutical company.
The police seized the pickup vehicle valued at approximately Rs 2.50 lakh. Chaudhary allegedly acquired unusable plasma from Mohan Gaikwad, who sourced it through a Maharashtra blood bank. Genuine plasma was purportedly removed from blood banks and replaced with adulterated material before being forwarded. Prakash Sangale and Ashok Sangale, operating blood banks in Maharashtra’s Washim district, allegedly facilitated the movement of substituted plasma to a pharmaceutical company in Bengaluru.
