Ahmedabad will soon have a new state-of-the-art Regional Transport Office (RTO) complex near Subhash Bridge, as the Gujarat government has finished constructing a high-tech facility aimed at enhancing citizen services and reducing processing time for applicants.
The new office, built at a cost of Rs 62.26 crore on the directives of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, replaces the old RTO office. It features digital and AI-based infrastructure to streamline transport-related services.
Spanning 12,787 square metres, the fully air-conditioned building comprises a basement, ground floor, and three upper floors. It is designed to accommodate a large number of visitors, with a waiting area capable of hosting around 230 people simultaneously.
One of the notable aspects of the new office is its AI-based automated testing tracks for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. This system, coupled with a modern control room, is anticipated to minimize manual intervention, save time for applicants, and enhance transparency in driving license testing and related processes.
The facility also boasts upgraded fire safety systems and digital service infrastructure to facilitate quicker and more transparent processing of transport-related applications. The government emphasized that the new RTO complex aims to offer citizens advanced facilities and transparent digital smart services, contributing to an improved ‘Ease of Living.’
Chief Minister Patel highlighted the importance of urban development, acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in revitalizing Gujarat’s cities. The new office aligns with the state government’s broader strategy of leveraging technology for public service delivery and enhancing administrative infrastructure in urban areas.
Once operational, the office is expected to cater to a substantial volume of transport-related services for Ahmedabad residents and neighboring areas.
