Ahmedabad saw a boost in its urban greenery efforts with Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participating in two mass tree planting events. The initiatives, part of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s ‘Mission Five Million Trees’, aimed to enhance the city’s green cover. The leaders planted saplings near Applewood and at the Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala plot managed by the National Dairy Development Board.
The tree plantation programs also focused on creating a “Green Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.” Thousands of trees were planted to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The events highlighted the commitment to boosting Ahmedabad’s greenery, advocating for environmental conservation, and encouraging public engagement in tree planting and conservation efforts. Participants pledged to work towards a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency for future generations.
The ‘Mission Five Million Trees’ campaign aims to increase the city’s green cover, maintain ecological balance, and raise awareness about tree planting and care. Organizers emphasized the importance of community involvement in ensuring the long-term health of the planted trees. The events underscored that tree conservation is not just a social responsibility but also a crucial aspect of India’s cultural values, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable city.
Environmentalists, voluntary organizations, citizens, and young volunteers actively participated in the plantation drives. Notable attendees included Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot, Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, NDDB Chairman Minesh Shah, and other public representatives. The collective efforts showcased the city’s dedication to fostering a green and environmentally conscious community.
