The AIADMK Workers’ Rights Retrieval Kazhagam strongly criticized the “brutal attack” on an Odisha migrant worker in Tiruttani, Tamil Nadu, blaming the DMK government for the rise of drugs and lawlessness in the state. Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam expressed shock over the incident where a group of teenage boys reportedly assaulted the man with sickles, highlighting the deep-rooted issue of drug abuse among the youth. Panneerselvam emphasized the urgent need for the government to address the growing drug problem to ensure public safety and social order.
The attack, which took place near the Tiruttani railway station on December 26, involved four 17-year-old boys who allegedly attacked the Odisha migrant worker. The perpetrators filmed the assault and shared the video on social media, sparking widespread outrage. Prompt action by the police led to the rescue of the injured man, who was hospitalized for treatment due to severe injuries sustained during the attack. The authorities have arrested the minors involved and initiated an investigation into the incident, focusing on the potential involvement of narcotics in the crime.
The AIADMK founder called for Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to address the issue seriously and implement immediate measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Stressing the importance of safeguarding the youth from drug-related activities, Panneerselvam emphasized the necessity of awareness programs and strict law enforcement to combat the growing drug menace in Tamil Nadu.
