Highlighting the disparity between northern and southern Karnataka, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to ensure equitable development for the Kalaburagi region. Speaking in Jevargi town of Kalaburagi district, Kharge emphasized the need for development similar to that of Mysuru in the region.
Kharge referred to Deputy CM Shivakumar’s statement expressing a desire to have been born in the region, noting the flow of funds following the implementation of special status (Article 371J). He stressed the importance of focusing on the region’s development to address historical neglect and ensure progress for its people.
Under the special status law, Kharge emphasized the necessity of prioritizing the Kalaburagi region in the execution of development projects. He urged officials to allocate a significant portion of development work to the region, similar to the levels seen in Mysuru and other constituencies, to enhance prosperity and educational opportunities locally.
Deputy CM Shivakumar highlighted the allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for Jevargi in Kalaburagi district and acknowledged the region’s significant support for the Congress party in elections. He emphasized the need for continued investment and development initiatives in the area to address disparities and enhance the quality of life for its residents.
