The President of the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), Suresh Shyamlal Gupta, has strongly criticized filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali following the death of a worker on the set of ‘Love and War.’ Gupta labeled the incident as a “murder” due to alleged inadequate safety measures and called for Bhansali to face murder charges. He also demanded Rs. 1 crore in compensation for the victim’s family and urged for a thorough fire and safety inspection of all film sets before filming resumes.
Gupta highlighted the lack of safety protocols on Bhansali’s sets, emphasizing that the recent fatality was not an isolated incident. He pointed out previous deaths on Bhansali’s sets, dating back to the year 2000 during the filming of ‘Devdas.’ The AICWA president underscored the need for stringent safety regulations to prevent further tragedies and protect the lives of workers in the film industry.
Expressing concern over the recurring fatalities on film sets, Gupta stressed the importance of ensuring a safe working environment for all crew members. He emphasized the need for adequate compensation, citing the financial challenges faced by the victim’s family. Gupta reiterated the demand for Rs. 1 crore in compensation, emphasizing the responsibility of production houses to prioritize the well-being of their workers.
The tragic incident occurred when Yadav, a carpenter, suffered an electric shock on the set of ‘Love & War’ at Film City in Mumbai, leading to his untimely demise. Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions has offered Rs. 40 lakh as compensation to the bereaved family, as investigations into the incident continue.
