AIIMS Bhopal is set to observe the International Day of Yoga on June 21 with a special event focused on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The Collaborative Centre for Mind Body Interventions through Yoga (CCMBIY–CCRYN) at AIIMS Bhopal will host the program. A mass yoga session is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. at Kautilya Bhawan on the campus, bringing together students, faculty, healthcare professionals, and the public. This year’s theme highlights the importance of yoga in promoting healthy and active ageing, emphasizing its benefits for physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
The Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, Ajai Singh, emphasized the significant role of yoga in global health and wellness. He described yoga as a holistic system that aligns the body, mind, and spirit, going beyond physical exercise. Regular yoga practice enhances flexibility, balance, cardiovascular health, and mental well-being while reducing stress and anxiety. Singh stressed the importance of preventive healthcare in combating the rise of lifestyle-related diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Yoga, being a cost-effective and scientifically proven approach, can help prevent chronic health conditions and improve overall health.
The International Day of Yoga, observed worldwide on June 21, was established following a United Nations resolution in 2014. AIIMS Bhopal aims to raise awareness about preventive healthcare through the event, offering participants the chance to experience expert-led yoga sessions. The program seeks to educate individuals on stress management, physical fitness improvement, and the role of yoga in healthy ageing. By promoting wellness, disease prevention, and community health, AIIMS Bhopal continues its commitment to enhancing public health through evidence-based initiatives.
