AIIMS Raipur has achieved a significant milestone by conducting 100 robotic-assisted surgeries in just four months since the launch of its robotic program. The procedures performed include nephrectomy, cystectomy, hemicolectomy, prostatectomy, pyeloplasty, hernia repairs, gastrectomy, and hysterectomy, showcasing the rapid adoption and enhanced clinical capabilities of the center.
Dr. Ashok Jindal, the Executive Director of AIIMS Raipur, emphasized the team’s dedication to training and delivering consistent, high-quality care through robotic surgeries. Patients are benefiting from this advanced technology with advantages such as smaller incisions, reduced pain, less blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery.
AIIMS Raipur introduced its robotic-assisted surgery program in August 2025, making it the first government hospital in Central India to offer this innovative technology. The initiative aims to provide minimally invasive care to patients in Chhattisgarh and neighboring regions, while also focusing on surgeon training and academic advancement.
Dr. Debajyoti Mohanty, Professor and Head of General Surgery at AIIMS Raipur, highlighted the institution’s progress in robotic-assisted surgery, leading to improved operational efficiency, reduced patient waiting times, especially for general surgeries, and expanded access to advanced robotic care in Chhattisgarh and nearby areas. Surgeons like Dr. Amit Sharma have achieved remarkable operating times for prostate surgeries, surpassing the global average.
