Air India announced that a flight bound for Mumbai had to return to Delhi shortly after take-off due to a technical problem. The aircraft landed safely back in Delhi, and all passengers and crew have disembarked. An airline spokesperson mentioned that the decision to return to Delhi was made by the crew of flight AI887 following standard procedures. The aircraft is currently undergoing necessary checks. The airline’s ground team in Delhi is assisting passengers and making alternative arrangements for their travel. Air India emphasized that passenger and crew safety is their top priority.
Amidst flight disruptions, Air India has taken steps to minimize passenger inconvenience during the upcoming fog season. This includes measures such as CAT III B crew rostering, deployment of CAT III B-certified aircraft, ensuring airport readiness, providing tech-enabled passenger assistance, and proactive communication with passengers. CAT III B crew rostering involves assigning specially trained flight crews and using aircraft capable of landing in low visibility conditions. The airline has also launched a ‘Fog Care’ initiative to assist passengers in case of delays or schedule changes due to uncontrollable circumstances. Flights likely to be affected by fog are identified in advance, and passengers are informed about any potential delays or schedule adjustments.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has specified December 10, 2025, to February 10, 2026, as the official fog window for this season.
