An Air India flight bound for London Heathrow had to turn back to Delhi due to a suspected technical problem. The flight, AI111, departed Delhi at 6 am and flew for nearly seven hours before landing back in Delhi around 12:30 pm. The decision to return was made as a precautionary measure to prioritize passenger safety, as per an Air India spokesperson.
The aircraft landed safely in adherence to the airline’s safety protocols. Currently, the plane is undergoing thorough technical inspections, and further actions will be determined post-inspection. Air India expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to passengers and assured efforts to facilitate their journey to London promptly.
Detailed checks are ongoing to identify the nature of the technical issue. In a separate incident last week, an Air India flight to Vancouver had to return to Delhi after 9 hours due to aircraft clearance issues with Canada’s aviation regulator. The flight, AI185, departed with passengers on a Boeing 777-200LR, while approval was granted only for Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on that route.
