An Air India flight bound for San Francisco had to return to Delhi after being airborne for over eight hours due to a technical problem. The flight, carrying about 230 passengers, was on its way from Delhi to San Francisco when it turned back following safety protocols. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 777-300 ER.
The airline stated that the plane landed safely and will undergo technical inspection to ensure compliance with Air India’s safety standards. Flight-tracking data from Flightradar24.com revealed that the aircraft was in the air for more than eight hours. The decision to return to Delhi was made after the plane had been flying for over three hours in Chinese airspace.
Air India expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers and assured that arrangements were being made to get them to their destination promptly. Passengers were being provided with necessary assistance such as refreshments, hotel accommodations, or rescheduling options as per their preference.
The airline did not disclose the specific nature of the technical issue, but detailed technical checks will be conducted on the aircraft. Additionally, in a separate incident last week, an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Delhi experienced an engine fire after landing at Delhi airport on May 21.
