Air Marshal Devendra P. Hirani has assumed the role of Senior Air Staff Officer at the Headquarters of Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force. He joined the Indian Air Force on December 15, 1990, and is a Qualified Flying Instructor with nearly 5,000 hours of flying experience on various helicopters and trainer aircraft. Hirani, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, has held key positions throughout his career, including commanding training units and frontline air bases in the Northern sector.
Before his current position, Air Marshal Hirani served as the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff at Air Headquarters. He has an extensive background, having attended institutions like the Defence Services Staff College and the College of Defence Management. Additionally, he has been recognized for his service with prestigious awards such as the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2015 and the Yudh Seva Medal in 2022.
The Eastern Air Command, headquartered in Shillong, is tasked with protecting India’s eastern and northeastern airspace, including its sensitive borders with neighboring countries. This command is crucial for air defense, humanitarian aid, disaster relief missions, and maintaining operational readiness in a region of strategic importance.
