The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has revealed its initial list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. The list includes nominees for nine constituencies spread across the state. Aminul Islam has been nominated for the Rupahihat Assembly constituency, while Rafiqul Islam will contest from Manida. Minakshi Rahman is the candidate for Paka Betbari, and Abu Taber Bepari has been nominated from Parbatjhora.
The party has also named Nizanur Rahman for the Gauripur constituency and Rejaul Karim Sarkar for Srijangram. Matibur Rahman will represent Dhing, and Sabana Aktar will contest from Bilasipara. Additionally, Siddique Ahmed has been nominated for the Lahorighat Assembly constituency. The selection of these candidates in the first phase followed internal discussions and assessments of the political landscape in the respective areas.
AIUDF, under the leadership of Badruddin Ajmal, a Member of Parliament from Dhubri, has historically held a strong presence in minority-dominated regions of Lower and Central Assam. The party is gearing up for the elections by gradually unveiling its candidates. The focus is expected to be on constituencies where the party has previously demonstrated organizational strength.
The party’s leadership emphasized that candidate selection was influenced by factors such as grassroots organizational efforts, community engagement, and the ability to effectively address local concerns in the Assembly. As Assam’s political scenario intensifies with major parties disclosing their plans and candidates, the state is heading towards a spirited electoral environment. The upcoming Assembly elections are anticipated to witness fierce competition among both regional and national political entities. More candidate lists from various parties are likely to be announced in the forthcoming weeks as the election process gains momentum.
