AIUDF Chief and Binnakandi MLA Badruddin Ajmal expressed concern over the prevalence of counterfeit currency, labeling it a more significant threat than drug trafficking. Ajmal criticized the government for failing to address the issue effectively and urged stringent action against those involved in the circulation of fake currency and narcotics.

Questioning the origins of the counterfeit notes recently seized in Guwahati, Ajmal emphasized the need for a crackdown on the networks responsible for distributing them. He stressed the necessity for the government to tackle the issue promptly to prevent further proliferation of counterfeit currency.

In response to the situation, Assam Minister Biswajit Daimary highlighted the widespread nature of the problem beyond Assam and called for public cooperation with law enforcement agencies. Daimary encouraged citizens to provide information on individuals or groups engaged in illegal activities to aid police efforts in combating the menace.

BJP MLA Manab Deka alleged the presence of sophisticated counterfeit currency printing operations in Bongalmora, leading to the circulation of fake notes in the market. Deka reported police actions against the counterfeit currency racket in his constituency, resulting in the arrest of nine individuals involved in the illicit operation.

The discovery of a significant amount of fake currency in Guwahati has prompted investigations into the source of the counterfeit notes, potential interstate and cross-border connections, and the broader network facilitating their production and distribution. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify additional members of the racket and uncover the origins of the fake currency.
