All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLAs walked out of the Assam Assembly during the Budget Session as their request for a discussion on alleged harassment of Miya Muslims was not addressed. The party later protested outside the Assembly premises. AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for targeting the minority community with what he called provocative statements.
Islam stated that they moved an adjournment motion under Rule 56 of the Assam Assembly Rules to discuss urgent public matters, particularly remarks made by a person in a constitutional post. He accused the BJP-led government of promoting polarization and creating divisions among communities in Assam. The AIUDF demanded a discussion on the issue and urged the Speaker to maintain discipline and impartiality in the House.
The AIUDF leaders emphasized the importance of addressing the matter in the Assembly and called for a response from the ruling BJP. They expressed dissatisfaction with the denial of discussion, leading to their boycott of the proceedings and a walkout in protest. The party highlighted the need for a fair platform to address concerns regarding the treatment of minority communities in the state.
