National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval recently met with the Muslim community, highlighting the significant recruitment of youths from the community into the Indian Army and Paramilitary forces over the past 12 years. He stressed the unity of all citizens in India, likening the country to a large ship where everyone sails or sinks together. Doval assured the community of their right to criticize the government’s actions without doubting its intentions.
Recruitment in the armed forces, according to Doval, reflects the absence of bias or discrimination against Muslims in India. He emphasized the importance of embracing diverse identities rather than solely identifying with a religious group. Doval cautioned against subsuming various identities into a singular religious identity, advocating for a broader perspective.
Addressing a delegation in New Delhi, Ajit Doval underscored the need for individuals, including Muslims, to acknowledge their layered identities beyond religious affiliations. He warned against excessive focus on a single identity, which could lead to a sense of victimhood. Doval emphasized the shared responsibility of all Indians towards the nation’s progress and unity.
The NSA emphasized the necessity for ongoing engagement characterized by patience, active listening, and a willingness to accommodate differences. He cautioned against excessive singular identity that may result in alienation and hinder social integration. Doval encouraged the delegation, led by educationist Zafar Sareshwala, to actively contribute to expanding opportunities for Muslims in various sectors.
