Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj reiterated warnings to the Punjab government regarding the removal of “objectionable” clauses from the state anti-sacrilege law. During the commemoration of the 42nd anniversary of ‘Operation Blue Star’, pro-Khalistan slogans were raised, and posters of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale were displayed.
Jathedar Gargaj, addressing the gathering at Akal Takht, emphasized the immediate revocation of the “black law” brought by the state government. The anniversary event, marked by a significant security presence, saw the assembly of radicals and sympathizers, with pro-Khalistan sentiments prevailing.
The Jathedar highlighted the need to withdraw the contentious clauses of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Satkaar (Amendment) Act, 2026. Referring to the Central government’s repealed “black laws”, he urged the Sikh diaspora to maintain ties with Punjab, emphasizing the state’s significance as the Sikh homeland.
Amid the peaceful observance of the day at the Golden Temple, devotees gathered for the “bhog” of an Akhand Path and Gurbani Kirtan. Operation Blue Star, a significant military action in 1984, was remembered through an exhibition displaying images from the operation and the subsequent damage to the Golden Temple complex.
