After Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav criticized the government, stating that the resignation should have happened sooner. Pradhan stepped down amidst widespread student protests due to exam irregularities following the NEET-UG paper leak on May 3.
Addressing the media in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav expressed satisfaction over the news, particularly for the youth, noting that it had been well-received wherever it reached. He questioned the government’s delay in taking action, emphasizing the need for earlier decisions and dialogue with affected students, some of whom had tragically lost their lives.
Referring to the government’s acknowledgment of the exam paper leak and subsequent dismissals, Akhilesh Yadav highlighted the influence of the younger generation, noting even a shift in the government’s approach due to their power. He also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent video addressing students and youths on Instagram.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also welcomed Pradhan’s resignation, asserting that the youth’s voice cannot be suppressed. Speaking in Wayanad, Kerala, she expressed her happiness over the youth’s activism and criticized the RSS’s influence on the education system, emphasizing the need to protect the values of the country’s founders.
