Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav visited Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee at her residence in Kalighat to offer his moral support after her party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. During the meeting, Yadav reassured Banerjee, stating that she had not truly lost and accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission of India of electoral malpractice in West Bengal.
Yadav’s meeting with Banerjee was also attended by Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Abhishek Banerjee, who welcomed Yadav to Banerjee’s home. Addressing the media afterward, Yadav emphasized the importance of opposition leaders uniting against alleged electoral fraud, highlighting the need for collective action.
Comparing the situation in Bengal to the previous Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Yadav criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party for what he deemed as betrayal in Uttar Pradesh and its subsequent influence on electoral processes in other states. He raised concerns about irregular deployment of forces and administrative interference during the polls, calling for a collaborative effort to safeguard democracy.
Yadav further alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party aimed to undermine democracy and suppress people’s voting rights, not only in West Bengal but also in Uttar Pradesh. He expressed worries about attempts to disenfranchise individuals, particularly from marginalized communities, emphasizing the broader implications of such actions on democratic rights and electoral outcomes.
