Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, led by actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay, emerged as the largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with 108 seats. However, with the Congress alliance, their total stands at 112 seats, still short of the majority mark. Vijay met the Governor to stake a claim for government formation but was told to prove numerical support in the Assembly first.
Reports indicated that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam lacks the required Assembly members to independently form the government. To garner support, party leaders are in talks with various political groups. Vijay’s party has approached Left parties and the Indian Union Muslim League seeking their backing for government formation.
Indian Union Muslim League’s national president confirmed the discussions and mentioned consulting with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam before a final decision. Vijay’s party needs at least six more Assembly members to reach the majority mark. Notably, they have ruled out seeking support from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance.
