The All India Shia Personal Law Board expressed strong disapproval of Maulana Sajid Rashidi’s remarks about Muslims and their perception of India as a motherland. Rashidi had stated that Muslims do not consider India as their mother, emphasizing that in Islam, the only mother is the one who gives birth. Responding to this, General Secretary Maulana Yasoob Abbas highlighted that while Islam values a person’s biological mother greatly, it also emphasizes love and respect for one’s homeland.
Abbas clarified that according to Islamic teachings, loving and respecting one’s homeland is an essential aspect of faith. He emphasized that while a mother holds a supreme position in Islam, patriotism and attachment to the motherland are also significant. Rashidi’s claim that Islam predates Hinduism was refuted by Abbas, who cautioned against unnecessary debates on the origins of religions, citing that such discussions only serve to divide society.
Abbas further criticized the trend of making controversial statements for publicity and urged against engaging in debates over religious chronology. He stressed the importance of addressing real issues like poverty and unemployment instead of getting caught up in trivial matters related to religion.
