Allegations against AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava intensified after an altercation at a factory site in Gujarat’s Bharuch district. BJP MP Dhaval Patel accused the legislator of assaulting members of a tribal victim’s family. Patel claimed that multiple serious cases have been registered against the MLA, who is currently out on conditional bail.
The incident occurred following a fire at a chemical unit in the Jhagadia GIDC industrial estate on April 23, where 16 workers were injured, and two later died during treatment, including Rakesh Vasava. Rakesh Vasava’s cousin, Roshan Vasava, visited the factory premises a day after the death to discuss compensation for the bereaved family.
A video circulating widely shows an argument between the MLA and Roshan Vasava near the factory gate escalating into both men slapping each other in the presence of a police officer before others intervened. Roshan Vasava alleged that the MLA had provoked tensions by inciting people at the site.
Chaitar Vasava, responding to the allegations, stated that he had visited the site after being approached by victims’ families seeking justice. He attributed the altercation to the presence of outsiders who were not connected to the victims’ families. The MLA also mentioned that the company had offered Rs 15 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased workers but had not agreed to provide financial assistance to injured workers.
BJP MP Dhaval Patel criticized the MLA’s involvement, stating that discussions over compensation were already underway when Chaitar Vasava intervened. Patel accused the MLA of assaulting youths of the tribal community and members of the deceased families, engaging in violence, and issuing threats. Patel assured that the government and tribal community would take strict action to prevent such incidents in the future.
