An alleged bootlegger was apprehended in Nand Nagri, East Delhi, with 198 quarter bottles of illicit liquor, a scooty used for transportation, and Rs 2 lakh suspected to be from the illegal liquor trade seized by the police. The arrest was part of an ongoing crackdown on the illicit liquor network by the Police Station Nand Nagri.
During a routine patrol near A-3 Block Sabzi Mandi in Nand Nagri, a team intercepted a man on a scooty under suspicious circumstances. Upon inspection, the police found 198 quarter bottles of illicit liquor in his possession, equivalent to 35.640 liters.
The accused, identified as Jasvir Singh, 20, a resident of A-3 Block, Nand Nagri, confessed during interrogation to supplying illicit liquor on behalf of Sunny, a resident of B-Block, Nand Nagri. Acting on this information, the police searched Sunny’s residence and recovered Rs 2 lakh suspected to be proceeds from the illegal liquor trade.
Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Delhi Excise Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following the recovery. Further investigations are underway to determine the source of the illicit liquor, identify other network members, and trace the supply chain. Records also revealed that the absconding accused, Sunny, hails from a family with a criminal history, with his late father and mother having previous criminal cases against them.
