The Amarnath Ji Yatra has surpassed four lakh pilgrims as of Sunday since its commencement on July 3. Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Chairman of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, announced the milestone on social media, expressing gratitude for the successful journey. A recent group of 4,474 Yatris departed from Jammu for the Baltal base camp in north Kashmir.
The pilgrimage through the Pahalgam route in south Kashmir is currently halted for track maintenance. The Yatra is set to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. Nearly four lakh pilgrims have visited the cave shrine, with around 1.20 lakh starting from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu.
Pilgrims traveling from the Jammu base camp are escorted to Kashmir in convoys under tight security measures. The cave shrine, located 3,880 meters above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas, features an ice stalagmite structure associated with Lord Shiva’s mythical powers. Yatris can choose between the longer Pahalgam route or the shorter Baltal base camp route for the pilgrimage.
