Indian boxer Preeti secured a spot in the women’s 54kg quarterfinals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after a dominant Referee Stops Contest (RSC) victory over Malawi’s Deborah Mitenje. Preeti showcased control right from the start, impressing all five judges in the opening round. Her precise punches led to the referee stopping the contest at 2:13 of Round 2, marking a resounding win.

The judges’ scores highlighted Preeti’s superiority, with four judges scoring the first round 10-9 in her favor, while one judge scored it 10-8. Mitenje faced two knockdowns before the match was called off. Following this triumph, Preeti has secured her spot in the quarterfinals, where she is set to face Nicole Clyde of Northern Ireland on July 28.

Nicole Clyde also secured a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Ghana’s Bamfo with a unanimous 5-0 decision in the Round of 16. The upcoming quarterfinal bout is anticipated to be a challenging test for the Indian boxer, with a chance to advance to the semifinals on the line.

Preeti’s impressive performance contributes to India’s positive start in the boxing event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, as the team aims to gather momentum for the medal rounds.
