Amateur radio operators are facing challenges in reuniting a mentally challenged woman from West Bengal with her family, who was located in Mumbai. The woman, a mother of two, reportedly lost her mental stability due to mistreatment by her husband, leading her to wander away from home. Despite being traced to her matrimonial home in West Bengal years ago, her family did not provide her with necessary treatment, resulting in her going missing again.
The West Bengal Radio Club (WBRC), comprising amateur radio operators, collaborated with authorities to locate the woman, who was found in Mumbai after being rescued by the Railway Protection Force in Pune. She had been drugged by individuals attempting to traffic her, but security personnel intervened and placed her in a shelter in Mumbai for nearly a decade. The WBRC, upon identifying her family in Gangarampur, faced resistance from the woman’s husband and in-laws in accepting her back.
Efforts to engage the woman’s family, including her daughter and brother, have been met with reluctance to take her in. As a result, arrangements are being made for her treatment in Mumbai until her condition improves. The WBRC remains committed to ensuring her rights as a married woman are protected once she is in a better state.
