Fears of AI causing massive job losses may be overstated, as per Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. Jassy mentioned in an interview that AI is likely to change the nature of work rather than eradicate job opportunities entirely. While some roles may require fewer people in the future due to AI, Jassy emphasized that this does not mean jobs will vanish completely.

Jassy highlighted that with every major technological advancement in history, new types of jobs have emerged. He stated, “I do believe that a lot of the jobs that we’ve thrown human beings at the last 20 or 30 years, you won’t need as many human beings doing those same jobs. But I also think there will be other jobs created. And that has always happened in every technology shift.”

Reports also suggest that AI will reshape jobs rather than eliminate them. A recent report by Morgan Stanley indicated that while some roles may be automated, most workers are expected to transition into new types of jobs, including those that are currently non-existent. The report referenced historical technological shifts like electricity, mechanized farming, computers, and the internet to support this view.

Morgan Stanley’s report cited the example of spreadsheets in the 1980s. Although spreadsheets reduced the need for certain clerical tasks, they also allowed financial professionals to focus on more intricate and higher-value work. This shift eventually led to the creation of new careers in finance instead of destroying the sector.
