Union Home Minister Amit Shah pledged that Hindu refugees seeking refuge in West Bengal due to religious persecution in a neighboring country will not face deportation. Shah made this commitment during a speech in Raidighi, West Bengal, as part of the BJP’s ongoing “Parivartan Yatra.” The assurance comes amidst concerns within the Matua community regarding potential voter list deletions.

Political analysts note that the Matuas, a Hindu social-backward group from Bangladesh, have been a significant support base for the BJP since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Shah emphasized that while Hindu refugees will be safeguarded, strict measures will be taken against illegal infiltrators from the neighboring nation.

Additionally, Shah announced a special allocation of Rs 5,700 crore for women’s empowerment in West Bengal if the BJP secures power in the upcoming state elections. He addressed grievances of state government employees regarding dearness allowance disparities and promised a new pay structure aligned with the 7th Pay Commission if the BJP assumes power.

Shah also pledged to address corruption issues during the Trinamool Congress’s rule, vowing to eliminate external mafias’ influence and strengthen law and order in Bengal. He assured that stringent legal actions would be taken against criminals with political backing, emphasizing accountability for serious crimes and corruption.
