Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the significance of this year’s Buddha Purnima festival, noting that it marks a historic moment as the sacred relics of Lord Buddha have come back to Ladakh after 75 years. Speaking in Leh, Shah extended his greetings to the people of Ladakh on this auspicious occasion. He emphasized that the return of Lord Buddha’s relics not only symbolizes peace and brotherhood but also holds immense cultural and historical value.
Shah mentioned that the presence of the sacred relics in Ladakh after seven decades is a special event, allowing a large number of Buddhists from Leh, Kargil, and followers of other faiths to witness them. He underlined the unique significance of Buddha Purnima, as it marks the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Lord Buddha. Shah also praised Ladakh as a region known for its spiritual enlightenment and historical importance in Buddhism.
Referring to Ladakh as a pivotal point on the historic Silk Route, Shah highlighted its role as a significant trade center and a hub for meditation and cultural exchange. He emphasized that Ladakh remains a revered pilgrimage site for Buddhists worldwide due to its rich Buddhist heritage. Shah concluded by stating that Lord Buddha’s teachings continue to hold relevance in today’s world, just as they did 2,500 years ago.
