Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached out to West Bengal Assembly’s Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, to inquire about the recent attack on Adhikari’s convoy in Chandrakona, West Midnapore district. Adhikari’s office shared five videos of the incident with the Union Home Ministry for review. The attack, as depicted in the videos, appeared pre-planned, with local police allegedly failing to intervene.
During a 15-minute conversation, Adhikari briefed the Home Minister on the Chandrakona incident. Adhikari expressed intentions to approach the Calcutta High Court regarding the attack and announced plans for a protest march at the attack site on January 13. The convoy assault occurred as Adhikari was returning to Kolkata after a political event in Purulia district.
Adhikari reported that Trinamool Congress activists obstructed his convoy at Chandrakona, brandishing party flags. He alleged that they attacked his convoy with bamboo sticks, damaging the bulletproof vehicle. Despite the prolonged assault, local police did not respond. Following the incident, Adhikari sought refuge at the Chandrakona Police outpost.
This is not the first attack on Adhikari’s convoy by alleged Trinamool Congress supporters. In a similar incident in August 2025 at Cooch Behar town, individuals linked to the ruling party attempted to block Adhikari’s convoy.
