The Indian U20 men’s team secured the top spot in Group B of the SAFF U20 Championship 2026 after drawing 1-1 with Bangladesh at the National Stadium. Vishal Yadav put India in the lead in the 17th minute, but Md Abdul Riyad Fahim equalized for Bangladesh just before halftime.
This result ensured India’s place at the top of the group, with a previous 3-0 victory over Pakistan securing their spot in the semi-finals. Bangladesh, with an inferior goal difference, finished as the group runners-up. India will now face Bhutan in the semi-final, while Bangladesh will play against Nepal in the other last-four clash.
The match started cautiously, with both teams avoiding early errors. Despite Bangladesh’s attempts to test India’s defense, the Indian backline remained solid. India gradually gained momentum, especially from set-pieces, leading to Yadav’s goal and control of the game.
India maintained composure even after conceding a late goal in the first half. They continued to dominate play, with Dodum and Abranches coming close to extending the lead. Despite efforts from both sides, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, securing India’s position at the top of Group B.
