Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for not wearing a traditional gamosa during the President’s ‘At Home’ reception on Republic Day. Shah mentioned that the gamosa was a symbol of honor and respect presented to dignitaries, which Gandhi declined to wear. He highlighted that all guests, including foreign delegates, wore the traditional Assamese attire except for Gandhi, calling it an insult to Assam and the Northeast’s cultural heritage.
Union Home Minister Shah emphasized that the BJP would not tolerate any disrespect towards the culture of the Northeast. He condemned Gandhi’s actions, stating that such behavior showed a lack of regard for the region’s rich traditions. Shah also criticized the Congress party for its governance in Assam, accusing it of neglecting the state during its tenure.
Shah raised concerns about illegal infiltration, alleging that the Congress had exploited the issue for political gains. He claimed that under the BJP-led government in Assam, infiltration had been effectively curbed. Shah assured that those who entered the country illegally would be identified and deported, emphasizing the government’s commitment to safeguarding the region’s identity and traditions.
