Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah praised Gujarat’s dairy cooperative network for transferring almost Rs 200 crore daily to women livestock rearers’ bank accounts. He highlighted that 36 lakh women in Gujarat are involved in milk production and cooperative dairy activities, generating nearly three crore liters of milk daily. Shah emphasized the significant economic empowerment of women in rural India through the dairy sector, noting the positive impact on their financial independence.
The minister shared his observations from Mansa, his birthplace, where he witnessed the transformative effects of dairy cooperatives on rural households. Shah emphasized that women, who were once financially dependent, now lead their households due to the dairy sector’s contributions. He underscored the cooperative structure’s role in ensuring that profits directly benefit women engaged in milk production, enhancing financial stability in villages.
Shah highlighted the regular payments facilitated by dairy cooperatives, which have improved the financial well-being of rural communities. He mentioned the happiness brought by timely salaries deposited every seventh day, emphasizing the positive impact on households. The minister also lauded the strength of Gujarat’s cooperative system, exemplified by the substantial daily transfers of Rs 200 crore to women livestock rearers.
Referring to technological advancements, Shah discussed the AI digital assistant “Sarlaben,” recently introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support women in agriculture and livestock rearing. He praised the platform’s user-friendly design, ensuring accessibility for women in remote villages. The event, attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other dignitaries, highlighted the crucial role of technology and cooperatives in empowering women in rural Gujarat.
